Angel Aligner and Invisalign both straighten teeth with removable clear trays, and we offer both at our Macquarie Park practice. If you’re weighing them up, the main differences are the manufacturer, the tray material and planning software, and the fee. This guide sets them side by side.

Who makes them

Angel Aligner is made by Angelalign Technology, founded in Shanghai in 2003 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It is widely used in Asia and has been expanding in Australia. Invisalign is made by Align Technology in the US and has been on the market since the late 1990s, so it has the longer track record.

Material and features

Angelalign describes its masterControl S material as designed to deliver steady force and stay clear during wear. The company also promotes its Intelligent Root System, which it says takes root position into account during planning, and its angelButton and angelAttach designs for extra control. Invisalign uses SmartTrack material and its own attachment designs. These are manufacturer descriptions; how a tray feels is individual.

Treatment planning

For both systems we start with a 3D iTero scan, photos and any X-rays needed. Angel Aligner plans are built in iOrtho and Invisalign plans in ClinCheck. You’ll see the planned movements and the expected number of aligners before you decide.

Cost in North Ryde

Angel Aligner treatment at North Ryde Dentistry ranges from $3,700 to $8,490, compared with $4,200 to $8,990 for Invisalign. Additional retainers are $350 for three Angel sets and $500 for three Vivera sets. Your fee is confirmed in writing after your assessment, and extras cover with orthodontic benefits may contribute.

How we help you choose

Direct clinical comparisons between Angel Aligner and Invisalign are limited, so we don’t claim either is better for everyone. We look at your bite, the movements needed, your budget and your preferences, then explain the options, including traditional braces. Risks and limitations

Whichever system you choose, aligner treatment isn’t suitable for everyone and results vary. Expect some tenderness with each new set, a short adjustment period for speech, and the need to remove the trays to eat. Treatment relies on wearing the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, attachments or interproximal reduction may be needed, and teeth can move back if retainers aren’t worn. Any invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Read more about treatment risks.
