Spark is a clear aligner system made by Ormco, a US orthodontic company that also makes brackets and wires for traditional braces. It is one of three aligner systems we offer at our Macquarie Park practice, alongside Invisalign and Angel Aligner.
Like other aligners, Spark uses a series of removable clear trays that move your teeth in small steps. Your first consultation is complimentary, and we’ll tell you honestly whether Spark, another aligner or braces is the better fit for your teeth. See all our clear aligner options.
These are the manufacturer’s descriptions. Independent research comparing Spark directly with other aligner brands is still limited.
Spark may be an option for adults and older teenagers with crowding, gaps, some bite problems or teeth that have moved after earlier braces. Your dentist will check your gums, existing dental work and bite first. Some cases are better treated with fixed braces or by a specialist orthodontist, and we’ll explain why if that applies to you.
| Item | Fee at North Ryde Dentistry |
|---|---|
| Consultation | Complimentary |
| Spark aligner treatment | $3,700 to $8,490, depending on complexity |
| Additional Spark retainers | $400 for three sets |
Your fee is confirmed in writing after your assessment. Payment options are discussed at your appointment, and if your extras cover includes orthodontics your health fund may contribute. Ask us for the item numbers to check your rebate.
At our practice Spark is $500 less than Invisalign at each end of the fee range. Both use clear trays and digital planning; they differ in tray material and software. Read our guide to Spark aligners vs Invisalign, or compare Spark vs Angel Aligner.
Clear aligner treatment is not suitable for everyone, and results vary between patients. Common effects include temporary tenderness when you start a new set, a slight lisp for the first few days and the need to remove the trays to eat and drink anything other than water. Treatment depends on wearing the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day; if they are worn less, teeth may not track to plan and extra aligners or a longer treatment time may be needed. Some plans need small tooth-coloured attachments or gentle reshaping between teeth (interproximal reduction). Teeth can drift back after treatment if retainers are not worn as directed, and existing gum disease or decay must be treated first.
Any invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Read more about treatment risks.
