Happy gas (nitrous oxide)
Nitrous oxide, often called happy gas, is breathed in through a small mask over the nose during treatment. It can help some people feel more relaxed. You stay awake and able to respond, and its effects wear off within minutes of the mask being removed.
Is it suitable for you?
Nitrous oxide is not suitable for everyone — for example in early pregnancy, with some lung conditions or blocked nasal passages, or with certain medications. Your dentist will review your medical history before offering it. If you have not had it before, your dentist may suggest trying it at a short visit first.
Side effects
Some people feel light-headed, tingly or nauseous. These effects usually pass soon after the gas is stopped. You should not drive until you feel completely normal; your dentist will advise you.
Fee
There is a fee for nitrous oxide, which covers the gas and its administration. Ask us for the current fee when booking.
