How Does the Teeth Whitening Process Go?
It’s a simple process. There are two bleaching agents found in whitening products. These are hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. These bleaches break down the teeth stains into little pieces, making them less concentrated and less visible and your teeth look brighter.
What Are Some Maintenance or Aftercare Techniques for Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening or bleaching is not intended for cleaning the teeth. You also have to be reminded that the teeth can get discoloured or stained again once they become exposed to the factors that originally caused them to get stained or discoloured.
Professional dentists recommend as aftercare for patients who have gone through the whitening or bleaching process the following: practising their daily oral hygiene which consists brushing at least twice daily and flossing. Rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash daily is also highly recommended.
Does Teeth Whitening Work All the Time?
It is crucial to consult your dentist before you decide to have teeth whitening since this process doesn’t work on all types of teeth. Yellow teeth may be whitened but not much with brown teeth and with gray teeth, teeth whitening may not work at all. The procedure is also not effective on crowns, veneers, fillings, and caps. If the discoloration is caused by tooth injury or by medication, teeth whitening may not also work.
Will I Experience Side Effects after a Teeth Whitening Treatment?
There are some people who develop sensitivity when their teeth get exposed to whiteners. This is the case when the peroxide found in the whitener gets through the enamel and towards the soft layer called the dentin and in turn irritates the tooth nerve. The sensitivity will only be temporary and all it needs is to delay the treatment then to try again after a while.
It is also advisable to consult with the dentist on the use of the whiteners since overusing it may damage the enamel and also the gums.
