Dental Implant

A dental implant is a screw like titanium fixture used as an artificial replacement of tooth roots that is embedded into the jaw bone. By attaching and fusing with the jawbone and gums, they are able to provide a solid foundation for artificial replacement of teeth, including bridges, supporting dentures and most commonly crowns.

When a tooth is removed, the gap in the jaw can limit one’s chewing ability. To further complicate the issues, the adjacent teeth and opposing tooth can grow into the missing tooth’s space, messing up the occlusion altogether.

A dental implant is a restoration designed to replace the missing tooth without any damage to the adjacent teeth. It consists of a medical grade titanium alloy fixture embedded in the jaw bone, with a dental crown fitted on top of it. It mimics the aesthetic and function of the natural tooth.

For whatever your reason that your tooth is loss, consult with your dentist whether dental implant is suitable for you. In suitable candidates, this procedure can also be used to also replace a whole arch of missing teeth. No more loose dentures.

5 year warranty applies to patients who have attended for regular six month gap-free check-up and clean at North Ryde, North Sydney, Hornsby or Sydney CBD Dentistry (for those without health funds this is $188 for new patients and $200 for returning patients per visit). Because every case is different, consultation prior to treatment is required (at standard consultation fee) to determine if your case is eligible for this special. For example, major bone graft cases need collaboration with specialists, but for most basic implant cases involving up to 3 implants, this special is likely to apply.

A single dental implant with a CEREC crown at North Ryde Dentistry starts from $5,500 per tooth. The fee depends on your case; bone grafting, extractions or a 3D scan, if needed, are quoted separately before they are carried out. Prices current at October 2026 and may change. Implant surgery carries risks, including infection, nerve injury and implant failure — see our risks and considerations. Before proceeding you may wish to seek a second opinion.

Dental implants Sydney are strong, long lasting options for those wanting to replace their lost teeth. While they may require some maintenance just like your natural teeth, they are much lower maintenance option when compared to other alternatives like dentures.

Tooth implants have many benefits over alternative teeth replacement options some examples are:

  1. Provide longevity and are sturdier than bridges and dentures
  2. Prevent bone loss
  3. Are made to look like your natural teeth
  4. Discuss the expected dental changes
  5. Restores the look of your smile in a natural manner that does not cause any deterioration of any other surrounding teeth;
  6. They can help to preserve the remaining jaw bone structure, such that the jaw bone where the missing tooth is does not deteriorate
  7. Enables you to regain your ability to speak and chew and also helps to reduce the probability of future infections or gum problems.

Losing a tooth can be a traumatic and uncomfortable experience. Due to advancements in medical technology there are multiple options to restore your tooth to its full functional capacity.

At North Ryde Dentistry, we offer fixed solutions to a missing tooth.

Dental implants are titanium fixtures implanted into your jaw bone to act as roots for your teeth. Unlike the bridge procedure, dental implants have the benefit of not disturbing the adjacent teeth. The Dental Implants at North Ryde Dentistry are made from pure Titanium.

If you have healthy jaw bone, do not have gum disease such as gingivitis or periodontitis and do no smoke you may be an eligible candidate for dental implant surgery. Please contact us to discuss your options as each case is different.

The dental implants used at North Ryde Dentistry are made of medical-grade titanium, a material also used in joint replacements.

Dental implants can take up to 3-6 months from start to finish

  1. The implant fixture is placed into the jaw bone, where it will sit for 3-6 months allowing the bone to fuse with the implant.
  2. After this period of time, your dentist will attach a post to the implant screw forming the foundation for the new tooth or teeth
  3. A custom crown will then be attached to the implant post, made to seamlessly blend in with your natural teeth and smile.

An Implant Crown is required which we make in-house in a single visit. Visit our page about Dental Crowns for more information about this. We offer the Dental Crown restoration as part of the Dental Implant treatment package.

The recovery time for implants will depend on a range of factors including your medical and dental history, the condition of your jaw bone, how many implants are placed and if you required a gum / bone graft. Your circumstances will dictate the recovery time and could last for a few days to a couple of weeks, but it is normal if you have bruising, some minor pain, swelling and bleeding afterwards.

After completion of your dental implant, it is advised to care for your implant just like your natural teeth by brushing and flossing regularly, and having regular dental checkup. Implants are susceptible to gum disease like natural teeth, by having regular professional checkup and cleans your Dentist or Oral Health Therapist is able to help you maintain your implant.

It is always best to plan ahead if you are thinking of having a tooth removed or had a tooth removed. The delay of treatment can lead to bone loss around the potential site for the implant to be placed.

Those who have experienced bone lost may require bone grafts that may increase the cost and expected healing time. Bone loss of the jaw can lead to instability of the remaining teeth around the site and potentially impact your bite.
