Technology at North Ryde Dentistry
These are some of the tools our dentists use at the practice. Your dentist will explain whether any of them are needed for your treatment, and why.
Cone beam CT (CBCT) 3D X-ray
A CBCT scan produces a three-dimensional image of the teeth, jaw and surrounding bone. It is used where ordinary X-rays do not give enough information, for example when planning dental implants, assessing a complex root canal, or checking the position of wisdom teeth. Like all X-rays it involves a dose of radiation, so it is only taken when your dentist considers it clinically necessary. Any fee for a scan is explained before it is taken.
Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays let your dentist see decay between the teeth, bone levels and other problems not visible in the mouth. The images appear on screen straight away so they can be shown to you and explained.
CEREC ceramic restorations
With CEREC, the tooth is scanned with a digital camera instead of a traditional impression, and a ceramic crown, inlay or onlay is designed and milled at the practice. In suitable cases this can be completed in one visit. Your dentist will advise whether CEREC is suitable for your tooth.
