Composite resin veneers use tooth-coloured filling material to change the shape, size or colour of selected teeth. They are usually placed directly on the teeth in one appointment.
How they are placed
- Your dentist examines your teeth and discusses your goals and alternatives.
- The tooth surface is cleaned and prepared so the resin can bond. Depending on the case, little or no enamel may be removed.
- Resin is applied in layers, shaped and hardened with a curing light.
- The veneers are shaped and polished, and your bite is checked.
Advantages
- Often completed in one visit.
- Usually less costly than porcelain.
- Can often be repaired or adjusted.
Limitations
- More prone to staining, chipping and wear than porcelain.
- Usually needs polishing, repair or replacement sooner.
- Where enamel is removed, the change is permanent.
Care
Brush twice daily, clean between teeth, attend regular check-ups and cleans, and avoid biting hard objects. A night splint may be recommended if you grind.
