Dental Crowns are used to repair teeth that have been worn down due to grinding, an improper bite, age, fillings and tooth decay. When the entire surface of a tooth is a problem, but the root system is intact, a tooth crown may be suggested. They cover the surface of the affected tooth, adding strength, durability and stability. There are different types of crowns which are made of different material. Ask one of our friendly dentists at North Ryde Dentistry about which option best suits you.
Many crowns can be designed, milled and fitted in one visit using CAD/CAM technology. This applies to CAD/CAM ceramic crowns; some cases need two visits.
Dental crowns from $1,820 each, made with CAD/CAM technology and, in many cases, fitted in a single visit. Crowns carry a 5-year limited warranty — conditions apply (see below). Your dentist will confirm whether a crown is needed and whether one or two visits are required. Prices current at October 2026 and may change. Questions? At North Ryde Dentistry, crowns are designed and made in-house using CAD/CAM technology, or by our group’s ceramic laboratory. Your dentist can show you how the crown is designed before it is made.
At North Ryde Dentistry a crown is only suggested to a patient when your dentist has examined your mouth and is convinced that certain teeth have a high probability of fractures or damage. Your dentist will explain the options as each individual case is different. All recommendations are made in the best interests of our patients and will be clearly explained and discussed with you before any treatment proceeds. We consider ourselves to be conservative dentists and all restorative options will be discussed.
A crown is a dental restoration that encapsulates a tooth, giving patients the protection against many of the harmful agents we place in our mouth on a daily basis. Extreme temperatures (hot and cold), hard or tough foods, or acidic fruits and drinks damage our teeth overtime. If you experience sensitivity or discomfort a dental crown may be the answer to your problems. However, they are not inexpensive; we believe that cost should not stop patients from protecting their teeth or from enjoying the finer things in life. This is why we provide this service at a reasonable rate as recommended by the Australian Dental Association median dental fees.
We utilise CAD-CAM (computer-aided-design, computer-aided-manufacturing) technology to scan a tooth, design its restoration, and mill it with a high-precision milling machine. The technology is now widely used in dental labs to produce precision-fit, aesthetic dental restorations.
Crowns often last 10–15 years, depending on your bite, habits and oral hygiene, and may need replacement if they chip, crack or develop decay at the margins.
Typically 2 visits but we are able to do this in a single visit.
Crowns usually require two separate visits. Upon the initial visit, the dentist will examine the tooth, take x-rays to check for cavities and the structure of the tooth root. We have the equipment in house to make dental crowns in-house in one visit. A local anaesthetic is given and then tooth is filed down and reshaped. Then, the dentist will take impressions of the tooth which are then sent off to the dental laboratory, where the crowns are custom-crafted. This will take up to a week. During this time, you would have a temporary crown fitted. Upon your second visit, you will have your crown permanently cemented in place if the crown fits.
If you would prefer to avoid a second visit, ask us about same-day crowns. Some ceramic crowns can be designed, milled and fitted in one appointment at North Ryde Dentistry; your dentist will tell you whether this is suitable for your tooth.
Tooth preparation can cause sensitivity and soreness. However, some people experience no pain at all, depending on how close the surface of the tooth is to the nerve. A local anaesthetic is given during this time.
Yes. During the preparation process, the dentist will colour-match your new crowns to the surrounding teeth so they blend in naturally. If you plan to have your teeth whitened, this should be done beforehand as crowns cannot be whitened. If your existing crowns are very old and discoloured, they would need to be replaced with new crowns for the colour you want.
Dental Bridges are a fixed option to restore a missing tooth. The procedure is used in similar circumstances to a removable partial denture (plates). The advantage of a bridge is that it is cemented in place and does not need to be removed. During the treatment, the abutment teeth are reduced with a crown preparation to allow for the high strength framework material and veneering ceramic to be put in place. This dental restoration procedure is an alternative option to replace a missing tooth when a patient is not a suitable candidate for either a surgical implant or removable dentures.
Restoring a missing tooth blends structural precision with fine artistry. Your dental bridge is custom-crafted by our clinical team and master ceramist to match your surrounding teeth and restore a natural, comfortable bite—completed in just two convenient visits.
Once we map out your treatment plan, we gently reshape the two teeth bordering the gap to create space for the supporting crowns. We use local anaesthetic as part of pain management and will discuss what you may experience during and after the procedure.
A digital scan of your teeth and the gap is taken, and a temporary bridge may be fitted while the permanent bridge is made.
The laboratory makes the bridge from the scan, matching shape and shade as closely as possible to your natural teeth.
The temporary is removed, the permanent bridge is checked for fit and bite, and adjustments are made where needed.
